2015-2016 Classroom

As you enter my classroom with year, my purpose for teaching is framed on my door. I think we all need a reminder once in a while of why we do what we do, especially on our toughest days. This purpose expresses a part of my heart and it is nice to share with the students, staff and visitors before they enter my classroom. My purpose all welcomes visitors to my school website through a Voki Presenter presentation.

The theme of our school has been "SOAR," due to a song I wrote for our teachers and staff to perform at our districts convocation in 2014. This song has become the framework of  goals, discipline,  motivation and attitude among the staff and students at our school. This year, my classroom expectations were created in reference to "SOAR."

Learning Essential Questions have replaced the "I Can..." statements in my classroom. These questions set the tone and guide the lesson (or unit) we are working on. At the end of the lesson or unit, we discuss the question, which provides students a time to reflect on their learner and deepen their thinking through the higher order thinking processes.

This little corner in my classroom provides students with references to their grade level core words and school- wide thinking maps initiative.

My musical element, note vocabulary, and Bloom's posters are displayed to allow students to reference them at any time. I am especially fond of my Bloom's posters, as they were created with a musical theme!

This is my reading nook! I love this. My rocking chair is just to the left of the bookcase. I haven't spent that music time here yet this year, but I love integrating books in to my lessons, so I am sure I will get to enjoy my rocker more soon!

Welcome Back (to me)! It's been a long time!

Hello followers. I apologize I haven't updated my blog in a while. Since my last post, I have changed classrooms three times, had a second baby, and started graduate school. But really, those are not great excuses!

I am going to get this school year started (a little late) with some pictures of my classroom! I will continue to add more and more throughout the year!

I hope all of my fellow educators have an amazing school year!
